“7th East Asia Maritime Law Forum 2014” was held in Waseda University, Japan from November 8th to 9th. Dozens of scholars, lawyers and business people, from China, Korea and Japan, engaged in research and practice of Sea law attended this two-day’s forum. Six teachers from our school participated in the forum.

The topics of this forum are “the Development Trend of Chinese, Japanese and Korean Sea Law” and “Status and Comparison of Maritime litigation and Arbitration in China, Japan and Korea”. Professor Shan Hongjun, Vice-President of DMU, made a memorial lecture on behalf of China at the opening ceremony. Associate Professor Jiang Yuechuan, the head of Maritime Law Department, made a speech entitled “the Development Trend of Chinese Sea Law from 2013 to 2014”; And Dr. Yu Shihui also made a speech, entitled “Chinese Maritime Litigation: Maritime Court, Jurisdiction and Others”. Professor Zhao Wei and Professor Wang Shitao submitted conference papers.

“East Asia Sea Law Forum” was jointly established by Law School of DMU and Sea Law Institute of Waseda University in 2008, and was held in DMU, Korea University and Waseda University in turn. It has been held for seven consecutive sessions. In the recent two sessions of the forum, researchers from universities in China's Hong Kong region, such as the University of Hong Kong, also took an active part in the activities of the forum. This forum provides a great academic exchange platform for scholars and practice-circle-personages of Sea Law in East Asia.

The 8th East Asia Maritime Law Forum will be held by our school in the next October. At the closing ceremony of this session, Vice-President Shan warmly invited all the experts, lawyers and businessmen to come to DMU to attend the 8th East Asia Sea Law Forum next year.
